    Meta Plays 2022 Update & Plans

    Welcome to our first site update of 2022! Show Match System: As mentioned in prior updates, we have been hard at work to bring a show match system to the site. This will work very similarly to our tournament system. The current plan is to make show matches work for simple 1v1 BO x formats at first. Here is a WIP preview of a test show match: With this, the site will offer the following: Have an easily browsed archive for past show matches Presentation of the maps and factions used in each match at a glance Suitable format for stream intermissions, much like brackets Offer player stats on show matches (win rates, total earnings, etc) Availability for community use will work just like tournaments - when the system fully works, people will have to apply to be hosts. Show match and tournament hosts will fall under 1 category, with our staff approving events for listing. To make things easier for hosts, who are likely to be content creators, we planned for 16:9 show match preview images, allowing re-use of YouTube thumbnails: Let us know what you would like to see from this system in the future! Game Support Update for 2022: New Addition - SpellForce 3: SpellForce 3 is an RPG and RTS hybrid, much like Warcraft 3. It is also free to start and has a very new competitive scene, so we highly recommend to try it out! In addition to our league on Voobly as seen last season, we are also starting up one made up of free events for the Extended Edition! Renewed for Season 2 - Halo Wars 2: Halo Wars 2 is also getting renewed for another season! We would like to cultivate the competitive scene, so that more new faces have the will an confidence to play in our league and other community events. To that end, we are going to run more free Skirmish events this season for Onyx and below players. StarCraft II and Warcraft III Show Matches: Our plans for StarCraft II and Warcraft III haven't changed - we will carry on with the occasional show matches until we have enough data to make a push for sponsorships. We believe that these two games require more budget than our other games for any event to stand out, and we are working towards making those greater budgets happen. Stay tuned! Adding Age of Empires IV? There have been many questions about whether we are planning to add Age of Empires IV to our supported game list. The short answer is yes, but we are not ready at the moment to commit. The main reasons for this are the all-too well known problems with spectating, the lack of a ranked mode, and the numerous bugs currently plaguing the game. We will keep monitoring the state of these areas, and make our move when the time is right. Looking to Support our events? The best way to support our leagues is becoming a subscriber on the website. Based on your position in the ladder, we assign you to a "Class" - one of D(lowest), C, B, A and S(highest). The classes give you a badge and will be featured on your Tournament Profile. By the time the Season Finale comes around, we will invite the top players based on the Ladder. Check out the Class icons below. The top 4 players will also receive medals corresponding with their final placement in each Tournament. While most are generic, Season Finale events, as well as any mid-season cup that reaches a prize pool of $300 will receive custom medals. Give Us The Numbers Based on the number and quality of signed up players, we modify the number of total points that a tournament can provide. Our guidelines for this are below: Base value: 10x Prize pool in USD (or monetary value in prizes). For any class exclusion combination, remove 10% points per class removed. S+A Class only tournaments are excluded from this ruling on a case-by-case basis. The number of players in the tournaments will scale the points in the following way: 4-8: -50% 9-15: -25% 16-24: no change 24-32: +50% 33-47: +75% 48-64: +100% You can review the point spread between player placements using our Tournament Point Calculator. Can I Host Tournaments Too? Yes! We are in fact looking for additional Tournament Hosts that are willing to contribute to our Seasonal Ladders, or cover an aspect of the game that we don't, such as team games. You can apply as a tournament host here. The ideal third party Tournament Host will: Have a prize pool for each event. Have a solid history of past tournaments. Not have been the cause of pay-out scandals. Try not to create conflicts with our event dates. What about Team Games? Same as in Season 1, we have no plans to fund a season for TG. We do however have the technical capability for keeping this separate and to facilitate them in the first place, and will be keeping our eyes on your feedback. Bracket will be locked at 4:45 PM GMT, making signing up impossible. Please note this is a ONE DAY EVENT. You must complete the tournament in 1 sitting. The event might take 6+ hours. Make sure you have enough time before you sign up. Seeding is based on in-game Leaderboard standings! We strongly recommend you get as high a placement as possible. Mode: Skirmish Objective: Capital Destruction Max heroes: 1 Resource Abundance: x1 Economy Multiplier: 100% Players must confirm their race pick to the manager (or caster if your game is streamed) before joining the lobby. Once joining the lobby, you must use the race you announced. You may switch races between games. Random race is allowed. Higher seed player bans a map first, followed by the lower seed player. Alternate until the number of maps matches the size of the series. Lower seed player picks the starting map and hosts it. Host takes slot 1, other player takes slot 2 Valid maps: Ancient City, Bitter Canyon, Empyrian Coast, Evergreen Forest, Greykeep Gardens, Hard Rock, Jungle Crossroads, Fortress Stoneguard, Wasteland of Xu, Windwall Forest No cheating or exploits of any form. There will not be a second rescheduling. Forfeiting players that break rules on any of our platforms, or do so out of malicious intent will be banned from the next event. Repeat offenders will receive a ban from the entire season. There will not be a fourth chance after the season-long ban expires. Not showing up = late by over 10 minutes. Max 5 min break between games in a series. Exceptions for emergencies only. Unreasonable delays will result in a map loss every 5 min. No harassment or discrimination of players/viewers/staff on any of our platforms. You will be disqualified, forfeit of prizes in this event, and be permanently banned from all event participation. Win trading will result in forfeit. Do your best to win. You may resign if you are clearly losing. Do not sign up with smurfs. Match all account usernames. We will remove suspicious sign-ups. In the event of player lag disputes, players must submit speedtest results. The event manager will make a judgement call. No account sharing. You will be disqualified, forfeit of prizes in this event, and be permanently banned from all event participation. You may stream your own matches, but a minimum of 60s delay is required.   10. The DM Patch 2022 mod rebalances the game with only DM in mind. The objective is to have each god be playable in a competitive environment. This time around, we are experimenting with water maps, for the first time in over a decade in DM. The maps will also be mirrored for the first time ever, thanks to RebelsRising, reducing the need for restarts due to map unfairness. Mod is available at https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2329500352 Remember to make this mod the highest priority, and to disable it when you are matchmaking. Scarab Pendant: all bonus vs buildings multipliers reduced to x1.25 (was x1.5 for siege, x2 for the myth units). Oseberg Wagon: speed boost on caravans reduced from 15% to 5%. Resources trickle rate relics (Ankh of Ra, Ship of Fingernails, Ring of the Nibelung) tripled in income. Staff of Dionysus Relic now increases Citizen (and Hero) Farm gather rates by 10%. Canopic Jar of Imsety Relic effect increased from -15% Infantry train time to -25%. Sistrum of Bast Relic effect increased from -10% Villager costs to -30%.   18. As the Age of Mythology season is coming to its conclusion in the 300$ Forge of Olympus tournament, I thought it would be fun to see your predictions on who will win it! It already is clear that Kimo will be the ladder champion this season, as he has made it to almost every single finals. Others have shown however that he is invulnerable, despite the monstrous 92% win rate in series. I'd specifically like to Draw some attention to Matreiuss and Nullus: They have both traded series with Kimo evenly, and while it's a small sample size, the map score actually FAVORS Matreiuss at 5-3, or 62.5%. As for Nullus, we are looking at a map score of 3-4, or 42.8%. What do you all think? Who else could be a dark horse for this event?

    Before getting into the season finale event, we are very pleased to announce that we will renew Age of Mythology for another season of tournaments! The Finale will be running in a scheduled fashion, with open casting available in the first 2 rounds. Based on player preferences, we will set up 2 separate days to cover the last segment of the event. These games will all be live streamed on our Twitch. The prize pool is starting at $300. If you would like to contribute to this, you can do so using our donation page. There will also be unique theming to the tournament - we named it Forge of Olympus, and have colossus helmet-themed medals for the top 4 finishers. SOCIAL RULES Participants must be in the Meta Plays Discord. Report match results there, with replays/links. Forfeiting/not showing up to any match with prizes will result in disqualification and you forfeiting the prizes. 1 rescheduling opportunity is granted when external conditions force it. There will not be a second rescheduling. Forfeiting players that break rules on any of our platforms, or do so out of malicious intent will be banned from the next event. Repeat offenders will receive a ban from the entire season. There will not be a fourth chance after the season-long ban expires. Not showing up = late by over 10 minutes. Max 5 min break between games in a series. Exceptions for emergencies only. Unreasonable delays will result in a map loss every 5 min. No harassment or discrimination of players/viewers/staff on any of our platforms. You will be disqualified, forfeit of prizes in this event, and be permanently banned from all event participation. Do not sign up with smurfs. Match all account usernames. We will remove suspicious sign-ups. In the event of player lag disputes, players must submit speedtest results. The event manager will make a judgement call. No account sharing. You will be disqualified, forfeit of prizes in this event, and be permanently banned from all event participation. You may stream your own matches, but a minimum of 90s delay is required. Streaming without delay results in a forfeit. Third party casters may stream matches that aren't marked to be covered by Meta Plays. Please contact our manager for this event for approval. 90s delay is required. If you are streaming our event, please consider giving us a shout-out or two, and sharing the next tournament with your community. This is optional, but we would return the favor. PAYMENT You will be paid approximately 2-5 work days after the event. Please reach out to @Nakamurawith your payment information after the event. If you do not provide payment information despite requests within 60 days after the event, you forfeit the prize money. We recommend bank payments as there are likely fewer fees. Paypal is a valid alternative that we support. We do not pay out via other methods. We do not pay extra to cover transfer fees.

  25. As the Halo Wars 2 season is coming to its conclusion in the 500$ Dawn of Decimus tournament, I thought it would be fun to see your predictions on the season's champion! Also can't go without giving @NeWYoRkLeGenD a massive shout-out for his 200$ contribution to the tournament! What a LeGenD. There's 2 different types of champion based on how you look at it. The Dawn of Decimus Tournament winner is one, and the #1 ladder finisher is the other - this may of course be the same person. Vote away! Note: the ladder champion doesn't get a prize, all prizes are tournament-based - it's all about prestige! The top 4 ladder players will be featured on the upcoming Hall of Fame page, however.
