    2023 Update and Roadmap

Hey everyone! In this post we will sum up what has been going on with Meta Plays, and detail our plans for 2023. Changes to our League Structure In 2023, we are changing our overall content strategy in order to grow our reach, and in the process make our project more sustainable. Instead of having low prize pools in Monthly Tournaments and then a slightly larger, but ultimately still small Season Finale, we will be putting all our eggs into the invitational basket. We are also reducing the length of seasons. We believe that these changes will help generate more hype, and also make all audiences (players, viewers, supporters, brands) take the leagues more seriously. We are also rebranding our events to a more standard, easier to understand format: The Monthly Tournaments will be rebranded to Qualifiers. The Season Finales will be referred to as a Main Event. Main Leagues will be called Pro Leagues. Skirmish Leagues will be called Amateur Leagues. Game Support Update Renewed for Season 2 - Age of Empires IV: We are naming this season "Genghis Khan's Legacy"! We are allocating a $500 starting prize pool, and accept community contributions to boost this. Below are our article announcing our league, the first Qualifier Tournament, and our promotional showmatch! Join ASAP! Renewed for Season 4 - Age of Mythology: We are naming this season "The Golden Gift"! We are allocating a $500 starting prize pool, and accept community contributions to boost this. Linked below are our article announcing our league, as well as the first Qualifier Tournament! Join it ASAP! Renewed for Season 4 - Halo Wars 2: We are naming this season "Sentinels"! We are allocating a $500 starting prize pool, and accept community contributions to boost this. Linked below are our article announcing our league, as well as the first Qualifier Tournaments for the 1v1 Pro League, as well as the 2v2 Amateur League! Join these ASAP! Renewed for Season 3 - SpellForce 3: We are naming this season "Circle Mages"! We are allocating a $500 starting prize pool, and accept community contributions to boost this. Linked below are our article announcing our league! We will post the qualifier at a later date, as the previous season has not yet concluded. Our New Media Manager One of the biggest changes for 2023 will be that we now have a dedicated Media Manager. Please welcome @Lucky_Spaidsto our team! He will be looking after all social media, and create some additional content with the aim of growing our reach. Expect highlights, shorts, recaps and more! We will do everything in our power to build a thriving community in as many places as possible. Fresh Looks You have probably already noticed the new website background, and/or social banners! We think the darker style is easier on the eyes, fits better with our shield logo, and is ever so slightly more environmentally friendly. This will be applied to our stream assets as well. The banners on our socials also get a little descriptive text box, helping people figure out what we do immediately. New Page: Sponsors and Affiliates We have also set up several affiliate links on the website - by using any of these services with our links, you support Meta Plays at the same time. These news will be re-iterated in the main news article as we kick off the upcoming leagues. In Development: Clans We have started work on a rudimentary clan system. While the website sort of supports this out of the box, people are able to join multiple clans even within the same game at the moment - which has lead to us hiding the feature. So we are working on cleaning this up, and featuring the clans in several profile areas. There is always the potential of developing clan-based events in the future, but for the moment, significant further development like that is not planned. Our priority will shift to ensuring that the events we run are sustainable both financially and in terms of not burning our team out. The Next Item: Unified Profile The final item on our development roadmap is to work the tournament profiles into the main website profiles. Our implementation of tournament profiles was hacky - it was easier to do it on a separate page, but this makes for a much worse browsing experience, and has very poor SEO, making our players difficult to find. Full integration of this area will be a significant improvement we believe. The Future Other than bug fixes as and when needed, this is it for website development. We would revisit this stance in the event that we can secure sponsorships to cover tournament prize pools. Doing website development on the side would be perfectly feasible in that case, but we cannot keep bleeding budget out of pocket while we are as small as we are now. Looking to Support our project or events? The best way to support Meta Plays directly is becoming a subscriber on the website. This is a monthly recurring payment that you get perks for, and help us cover the running costs of the project. You can also increase prize pools of individual tournaments by donating. Where To Watch We will live stream all our events on our Twitch, and VoDs will be available on our YouTube. Be sure to follow/subscribe, it's free! That's all! Let us know what you think in the comments. Also don't forget to join our Discord for real time chats! Thank you for reading, we will see you on the battlefield!

  20. We are very pleased to announce Season 3 for our SpellForce 3 Tournament League! This season features large changes compared to past ones: All of the league's prize pool is concentrated in the main event. Especially with community contributions, we can generate more hype for the main event. The larger prize pool will help eliminate unnecessary forfeits, as there is more on the line. Top players won't necessarily have to commit to playing all qualifiers if their schedule is busy. This system allows us to get all these benefits for a similar investment. The season's length will be 4 months, down from 6. Event changes: Each tournament will be a one day event. For the Main Event, we will invite the top 8 by ladder points from the qualifiers. We will rebrand the event names. The Main League will now be referred to as a Pro League. The Skirmish League will now be referred to as an Amateur League. Instead of Monthlies, we are now calling them Qualifiers. Each named after the main event. We will refer to the season finale as the Main Event. The lore-like theming will remain. Introducing "Paragon's Return" Pro League: Paragon's Return Qualifier 1 - Single Elimination - 1000 Ladder Points - February 25- One day event Paragon's Return Qualifier 2 - Double Elimination - 1000 Ladder Points - March 25 - One day event Paragon's Return Qualifier 3 - Single Elimination - 1000 Ladder Points - April 15 - One day event Paragon's Return Main Event - $500 + Community Donations, Double Elimination - May 14 - One day event How the Season Works Each tournament comes with Meta Plays Ladder Points. These points go towards the corresponding ladder. Based on your position in the ladder, we assign you to a "Class" - one of D(lowest), C, B, A and S(highest). The classes give you a badge and will be featured on your Tournament Profile. For the Main Event, we will only take our own ladder into account for your seeding. Check out the Class icons below. The top 4 players will also receive medals corresponding with their final placement in each Tournament. While qualifiers are generic, the Main Event will receive custom medals. For additional info, please check our Tournament and Ladder explainer posts! Give Us The Numbers Based on the number and quality of signed up players, we modify the number of total points that a tournament can provide. Our guidelines for this are below: Base value: 10x Prize pool in USD (or monetary value in prizes). For qualifiers the base value is 1000. For any class exclusion combination, remove 10% points per class removed. S+A Class only tournaments are excluded from this ruling on a case-by-case basis. The number of players in the tournaments will scale the points in the following way: 4-8: -50% 9-15: -25% 16-23: no change 24-31: +50% 32-47: +75% 48-64: +100% You can review the point spread between player placements using our Tournament Point Calculator. Can I Host Tournaments Too? Yes! We are in fact looking for additional Content Partners that are willing to contribute to our Seasonal Ladders, or cover events that we may not be able to. You can apply as a content partner here. We are Struggling with SpellForce 3 We won't sugar coat it - our live stream viewership has been extremely low for SpellForce 3. In Age of Mythology and Halo Wars 2 we have been getting around 80+ average live viewers, and some notable community support, while in SpellForce 3, we are looking at barely 20 average viewers, and very little revenue on all fronts. This means we are bleeding project budget more so than with the other games, by far. We will do what we can on our side to grow the competitive community, but ultimately this will be an uphill battle and will need your help to succeed. Can I Help Meta Plays Directly? For any of you looking to support our project, the best way to do so is becoming a subscriber on the website. This is a monthly recurring payment that you get perks and exclusive news for. The more goals we hit, the easier and safer it is for us to keep the project going. We are also currently looking for Moderators to join our team, so that we can keep our chats, discords and website a pleasant and friendly environment for all. You can apply here. Where To Watch We will live stream the main events on our Twitch, and VoDs will be available on our YouTube. Community casters will have access to cover any and all matches even live, since SpellForce 3 does not have a spectator limit. We also provide replay packs that may be used for replay casts or learning purposes. That is pretty much it! Let us know what you think in the comments below, join us on Discord for real-time chats, and we will see you on the battlefield!

How the Ladder Works Each tournament comes with Meta Plays Ladder Points. While qualifiers are generic, the Pro League Main Event will receive custom medals. Community casters will have access to cover games as well - all games that we don't cover are open casting for live streamers. Please contact each event's manager for clearance. Bear in mind though, that in Halo Wars 2, due to limited spectating slots, our Content Partners have priority in key matches. That is pretty much it! 23. We are pleased to announce the Meta Plays Age of Mythology League Season 4! The pro league events will be held on Age of Mythology: The Titans on Voobly! Meta Plays and our Content Partners will cover key matches, with the rest being open to community casters. Main event changes: This will be a one day event. We will invite the top 8 by ladder points from the qualifiers. For the moment, until Age of Mythology Retold releases, we will be halting our 2v2 and amateur events and focus on the 1v1 pro league. We are absolutely planning to bring these back in the future, though. Can I Help Meta Plays Directly? 2023 Plans Preview

Hey subscribers! In this post, we will be sharing a new status update on our development, and our planned format changes to our leagues, as well as other ideas we have for the future.
