Hi all,

In light of having the largest DM tournament of all time, I wanted to make sure we have the best DM experience possible, and so am putting together this small mod to tweak the most problematic parts of DM for a better playing and viewing experience, and to reduce blatant imbalances.

See below the list of problems the patch is attempting to fix, and please discuss and playtest the changes. These will be finalized by April 5th, two weeks before the tournament.

Problem statements:

  • General DM:
    • Building buffs were welcome, but increased building limits can be quite oppressive, resulting in static, boring gameplay.
    • Repair rates are too high, making it very difficult to destroy buildings, especially after their buffs.
    • There's relics not affecting DM games, thus wasting everyone's time while checking them. These shouldn't spawn in DM.
    • Summon god powers (e.g. Serpents, Ancestors, Walking Woods, Fimbulwinter, Nidhogg) are too flimsy for DM.
    • Some Heroic Age myth units are underwhelming in DM compared to Mythic Age options, but cost similar amounts.
  • Greek:
    • Pestilence covers far too large an area, and is too cheap to recast, causing problems in the early game.
    • Bellerophon is too tanky for such a mobile and powerful hero.
    • Medusa are too population efficient and shouldn't be able to outrange buildings.
    • Curse is the weakest Greek god power in DM by far.
    • Divine Blood causes Greek workers to build too fast.
    • Polyphemus is by far the worst Greek Age 4 hero.
  • Egyptian:
    • Isis' monument protection radius isn't functionally useful without empowering.
    • Set's early animals aren't functionally useful for combat.
    • The removal of hot pickups for Rocs reduces micro potential and dramatic moments in competitive play.
    • As with similar techs, Sun-dried Mud Brick's building speed boost is too impactful on map control.
    • Phoenix eggs hatch too slowly for the conditions of DM.
  • Norse:
    • Fafnirs donate far too much gold to enemies on death, making them impractical.
    • Gullinbursti recasts are far too expensive.
    • Hel's Fire Giants are hugely better than regular ones, making the base unit unviable.
    • Fury of the Fallen warps the power of Berserks, allowing them to take on their counters.
  • Atlantean:
    • God powers like Spider Lair, Valor, Traitor and Tartarian Gate are underwhelming and over-costed for the conditions of DM.
    • Lance of Stone no longer providing bonus vs buildings removed an iconic strategy that players miss.
    • Vortex dominates DM as mobility is key. It's too cheap considering this.
    • The Argus acid explosion deals too little damage.
  • Chinese:
    • Kuafus, but also Peasants build Town Centers too quickly in DM. This is heavily influenced by Houtu's Chasing the Sun.
    • Kuafus build and repair too quickly, and aren't affected much by diminishing efficiency.
    • Nu Wa's automatic construction is too fast, saving too much worker time while spamming buildings.
      • This is further compounded by Creation summoning in tons of workers, and the Hero Kuafu.
    • Hero abilities, especially Pioneer Lanterns are oppressive with Tempestuous Storm's cooldown reduction.
    • Earth Wall has far too much HP at full upgrades, making it near impenetrable.
    • Late game armies are extremely strong, making Leizu's Silk far too impactful as a broad upgrade.

The changes:

General:

  • Fortress-type building limit: 15 -> 10
  • Tower limit: 30 -> 20
  • Relics not affecting DM won't spawn
  • Repair rates reduced by 20%

Greek:

  • Pestilence range: 50 -> 40
  • Pestilence recast cost: 50 -> 80 favor
  • Curse conversion: 800 -> 1200 resources worth of units
  • Divine Blood build rate increase effect: +15% -> +10%
  • Hydra favor cost: 28 -> 22
  • Hydra pierce armor: 50% -> 60%
  • Manticore cost: 300 wood, 25 favor -> 250 wood, 22 favor
  • Polyphemus crush dmg: 15 -> 25
  • Bellerophon HP: 500 -> 450
  • Medusa cost: 250 wood 23 favor, 3 population -> 300 wood 25 favor, 4 population
  • Face of the Gorgon range buff on Medusa: 5 -> 4

Egyptian:

  • Set's free animal spawns: food-heavy animals replaced with combat animals
  • Isis monument god power blocking radius: 25 -> 30
  • Serpents now controllable
  • Serpent bonus vs Villagers: x0.1 -> none
  • Serpent damage: 5 -> 9
  • Roc HP: 600 -> 350
  • Roc speed: 5 -> 4.3
  • Roc cost: 150 gold, 5 favor -> 250 gold, 20 favor
  • Roc can perform hot pickups, landing ability removed
  • Ancestors recast cost: 100 -> 75 favor
  • Scorpion Man HP: 500 -> 600
  • Nebty: now affects Son of Osiris
  • Phoenix egg hatch time: 60s -> 30s

Norse:

  • Spy recast cost: 60 -> 20 favor
  • Gullinbursti recast cost: 300 -> 200 favor
  • Walking Woods cost escalation: 50 -> 20 favor
  • Walking Woods HP: 240 -> 400
  • Walking Woods hack damage: 16 -> 30
  • Mountain Giant pierce armor: 40% -> 50%
  • Battle Boar favor cost: 27 -> 24
  • Nidhogg HP: 2500 -> 3000
  • Nidhogg can be healed
  • Nidhogg bonus vs myth units: none -> x2
  • Nidhogg damage: 40 hack, 40 crush -> 60 hack, 60 crush
  • Fafnir gold donation: 300 -> 100
  • Fury of the Fallen boost: +25% -> +15%
  • Fimbulwinter: now blocks other Fimbulwinters while active
  • Fimbulwinter pack limit: 8 -> 10
  • Fimbulwinter duration: 31s -> 45s
  • Fenris Wolf pack boost cap: 5 -> 6
  • Fenris Wolf population cost: 2 -> 3
  • Fire Giant HP: 600 -> 700
  • Granite Blood HP effect on Fire Giants: +40% -> +20%

Atlantean:

  • Spider Lair CD: 90s -> 60s
  • Spider Lair cost escalation: 3 -> 2 favor
  • Carnivora: is now healable
  • Carnivora recast cost: 20 -> 10
  • Valor recast cost: 1 -> 0
  • Traitor cost escalation: 15 -> 5
  • Traitor CD: 180 -> 120s
  • Lance of Stone: Contarius Heroes gain x2 bonus vs buildings
  • Tartarian Gate hack armor: 30% -> 40%
  • Tartarian Gate HP: 2500 -> 3000
  • Tartarian Gate spawn limit: 7 -> 10
  • Tartarian Gate recast cost: 350 -> 200
  • Vortex recast cost: 0 -> 100
  • Argus acid explosion divine damage: 50 -> 75

Chinese:

  • DM Town Center build rate multiplier: 0.75 -> 0.6
  • Kuafu build rate on general buildings: 3 -> 2.5
  • Kuafu repair rate on general buildings/Town Centers: 1.5 -> 1.25/1.0
  • Kuafu Chieftain build rate on general buildings/Town Centers: 4.5/3.0 -> 3.0/2.5
  • Kuafu Chieftain repair rate on general buildings/Town Centers: 2.25 -> 1.5/1.25
  • Nu Wa's automatic building rate: 0.5 -> 0.25
  • Nu Wa no longer gets a regular starting Kuafu
  • Creation Clay Peasants spawned in Heroic/Mythic/Wonder Ages: 8/12/30 -> 6/8/10
  • Chasing the Sun build rate effect: +25% -> +10%
  • Earth Wall HP gain per age-up: +100% -> +25%
  • Yinglong: is now healable
  • Tempestuous Storm hero ability CD effect: -40% -> -25%
  • Leizu's Silk HP bonuses: +20% -> +10%
